Matthiesen, Wickert & Lehrer Welcomes Charlene Busch
Matthiesen, Wickert & Lehrer, S.C. (“MWL”) is pleased to welcome Charlene Busch to the firm as a senior litigator in our California office. Charlene’s 32 years of litigation brings a wealth of experience to MWL’s California office, which is already teeming with talent and expertise. Charlene boasts an undergraduate degree from California State University at San Jose, where she was a National Merit Scholar. A graduate of the Berkeley Law School (Boalt Hall School of Law), Charlene scored in the 99th percentile on her LSAT, and hasn’t looked back since.
Since 2004, Charlene has practiced as Special Counsel with two Irvine, California firms, and was litigation counsel with several Los Angeles law firms, where she focused on insurance and bad faith litigation, defense of class actions, and complex commercial litigation.
Charlene was born and raised in Orange County, California, close enough to Disneyland to watch the fireworks every summer night. She loves California’s mountains and beaches, although she’d rather sit in the shade and read a book than hike. She is an obsessive fan of Agatha Christie and Jane Austen, having read Pride and Prejudice 104 times since the fifth grade. She is from a large, close-knit family, and lives with a menagerie of pets, affectionately known as the “Bringers of Chaos”.
We look forward to the vast amount of experience and insight Charlene brings to the firm, and eagerly welcome her to our relatively new MWL California branch office, which is already very busy. “Litigation success requires hard work, perseverance, and preparation,” Charlene says. Her vast experience includes preparation and trial of cases in both state and federal court. Matthiesen, Wickert & Lehrer, S.C. (“MWL”) is also very proud to announce that Sara Huffman has joined our insurance litigation team as an associate attorney in our New Orleans branch office. Sara received her law degree from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law, and her undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University. Sara’s love for litigation and advocacy was clear in law school, where she distinguished herself by advancing to the Final Four of her law schools moot court competition. She was previously a content writer for the Business Law Group in New Orleans and has served as a judicial intern for Louisiana District Judge Raymond Steib. She also interned for the Speaker of the House of the Louisiana House of Representatives.
While Sara was born and raised in Dallas, she is proud to say that she’s a New Orleans transplant. When she isn’t working, Sara can be found listening to live music, trying new restaurants, attending various festivals, cheering on the LSU Tigers and Saints, or learning about the rich culture and history of the city. Sara also enjoys spending time with her black lab, Winston, who loves to accompany Sara on long walks through City Park and trips to the beach.
Sara will be handling insurance litigation out of our New Orleans branch office, especially nationwide insurance subrogation involving workers’ compensation, fire and casualty, auto, health, and fidelity and surety. Sara looks forward to joining the roster of attorneys presenting insurance-related webinars to thousands of clients and friends of MWL. She believes strongly that “the person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person who is doing it.” With that attitude she will fit right at MWL. Matthiesen, Wickert & Lehrer Welcomes Lee Wickert
Matthiesen, Wickert & Lehrer, S.C. (“MWL”) is also pleased to announce that Lee Wickert has joined our insurance litigation team as an associate attorney in our Wisconsin office. Lee is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and obtained his law degree at Marquette Law School and his M.B.A. at Marquette University. Lee is licensed in Wisconsin but plans to take the Texas State Bar Exam this July.
Lee is no stranger to the firm and is already a profile writer. He has worked for the firm since 2009, including three years as a research law clerk. He was a legal research assistant at Marquette University, creating class material for a Bankruptcy Law class, and contributing toward a law school text book on bankruptcy. Lee is also co-author of “Fundamentals of Insurance Coverage in All 50 States – Fifth Edition”, published by Juris Publishing, Inc. out of New York.
Lee has previously worked for Governor Scott Walker, Office of Legal Counsel, where he served as legal liaison ensuring the compliance of new legislation with Wisconsin law and the Wisconsin Constitution. He has also been an analyst with AXA Advisors in Milwaukee and a credit operation specialist with Johnson Bank in Racine.
Lee is a former hockey goalie, played hockey for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and is the assistant coach for the Cedarburg High School varsity hockey team. When he isn’t drafting subrogation complaints, Lee enjoys weight-lifting, politics, scuba diving, downhill skiing and playing board games with family and friends. He will eventually be practicing law in Texas, overseeing a planned MWL branch office in Austin.
Lee looks forward to joining the roster of attorneys at MWL which make it their mission to defend, protect, and recover the subrogation interests of the firm’s clients and presenting insurance-related webinars to thousands of clients and friends of MWL. Lee is excited about the challenge of focusing on a growing need in subrogation matters handled throughout North America and about the never-ending process of learning and growth. “I am very excited to have the opportunity to learn from the best,” Lee says, referring to the experienced attorneys he will be working with at MWL. His research and writing has already taught him that the power of the lawyer is the uncertainty in the law. He is anxious to help that uncertainty work in favor of MWL’s clients.
